9ff Porsche GT9

So, this isn't exactly a brand new supercar. The project started a few years ago, but the first customer cars are starting to be delivered. They will only make 20, and at 5/600,000E... an expensive piece of kit.


The engineering that has gone into this car is pretty astonishing, beating out the Veyron to top speed... of 400km/h+

Officially known as the GT9, it’s called a Veyron killer because in tests it has reached 300kph (186.41mph) in just 17.6sec, 0.6sec quicker than the Bugatti, and its top speed is claimed to be 254.77mph, a shade faster than the 253.81mph Veyron.
This thing is ridiculous. For the money, there are so many other things I would buy, but the engineering can't be ignored.

Discuss... Is this just silly? A pointless car to actually own? A terrific engineering feat, but when/where would you really drive it? For that much money, you could build a quicker drag car?

Didn't notice... I'll fix it with a fresh shot. Front rim looks right, though there are a few cars now floating around, one with some ugly chromies....

I don't like the look of it that much (ass is nice however), but gotta respect the potential.

I'll wait till I see JC doing some dori dori and yelling powaaaaaaa before making a final judgment hehe

Im not a fan of it personally, nor much of the rest of the Porsche range.

Only Porsche i like is the Cayenne.

i second that JC and then call it on the judgment...the body is of an old porsche that came out late 80 earlly 90s i think never like the frog look on that style but adore the 991's pre 1993

It's based on a 911 GT3, a car first introduced in 1999.

Hi,

Doubt it goes 'round corners very well, he says it does a comparable GT3 slalom time... I'd be doubtful of circuit speed.

As i understand it, this was the result of the speed limitations of the GT3  bodywork. There are some other videos of this incredible motor in a normal GT3. i would call it a racecar not a supercar, certainly not in the same league as a veyron.

Hi Rick,

It's in that weird grey area, where it is technically a production car that's road registrable, though good luck in Aus., and being an all out track car.

Rumour has it the next Veyron special edition will be unveiled in a month or so... I'll be right onto it people, I promise!

The 9ff's engine is based around the GT2 unit and bored out to 4 litres. It uses gold for the intake manifold. I think its great that a flat 6 can beat an 8 litre v16.

Hi,

Indeed engine wise it's based on the Gt2, but to be fair almost every single component is engineered in house, definitely nothing ordered from a catalogue here!

It is the body that is GT3.

Yes they produce almost every component themselves. Only the crankcases are standard. As for the body, its based on the 997 but squished. Its similar to what they did on the  GT1 in 1997. The 97 GT1 motor was the basis for the GT3 but without turbos.

The Bugatti is a car that does it all in comfort.

Why is it called a veyron "killer" if it just barely beats it?
And I hardly think it's an achievement to just barely beat it in a stripped out racing car, when you're racing basically a lounge room, comfort wise...
Impressive engineering sure, but if I had that sort of cash to splash, I'd be splashing it else where :clapping:

Hi,

I think it's called the Veyron killer for a few reasons. Firstly, from 200km/h to 300km/h it beats the Bugatti by 2.6 seconds, which we all agree is a huge time frame.

Secondly, 0-187, it is over a second faster, and has a higher top speed.

Secondly, it's not built with a budget rivalling a weekend away for an Arab sheik.

The Veyron really shouldn't be a car that any other car is compared to, and I think you're reading too much into the phrase 'Veyron Killer' - this is simply a media headline based purely on the performance. The bloke who built it never said that - but every interview he's done they want to compare the numbers to the Veyron, since it's far better known than other small production run crazy machines with similar performance, it's just easier to use it as the compare.

i dont think we are reading too much into veyron killer...they are classing it as one....so we are reading the right headline but its just not that impressive as the veyron.....im sorry to say it just isnt

Just seems like a w.e race car you put on the back of a trailer and take to the track. Which i assume most of the people who purchase one will do, if not all. Where as the Veryon, is the car you take to supermarket and end up with a super model (or Brooke Burke if you prefer) in your lap.
