It only cost me the $50 for the dyno day which netted me a winning raffle ticket.  on the receipt it is $990.00. I just had to pay for installation and tuning which was $500.

So am I correct in reading that you had about 190kw atw before the ECU change, and 203kw atw after the change ?
If so, you don't seem to be getting a good deal there. If you were getting that much power with the standard ECU I would have expected to see at least 10-20% improvement with the change surely. You must have done some reasonable mods to get 190, the ECU change should have opened those mods up way more I would have thought.

Happy to be shot down in flames though..... :-)

Paul

You might find the peak power is earlyer/smoother. Or it just hits harder.

Lots can be achieved without actually improving all out power output.

Very true, but the dyno graph doesn't really show a lot in those areas, you can always see more power earlier in the chart, but it seems that his graphs are a bit smoother which is good, but not a great deal else. It would also be interesting to see A/F ratio, I reckon all dyno charts should show that as it is soooo important, especially on Subies as they run so rich from the factory.

Hey Paul. How was your trip back home???

She comes on faster, stronger and smoother now. I ment to hit them up for an Air/fuel graph but by the time I got away from work to pick the car up last night (that time being 7pm) I just wanted to get home.

Good thanks, the old girl never missed a beat, power delivery is great now, very smooth, but the biggest plus I reckon is the change in handling with the STi front end, awesome !

Please don't think I'm having a go about the graph, I just think the ECU should have delivered a bit better result then that, it certainly looks to be a smoother trip though.

I should chuck my new engine on the dyno soon and see what it's like, that would be interesting, the last dyno I did netted 142atw from the TT setup.

Paul

Yeah Daz. Ready to go on but dyno broke. So it could get done till they got some parts from Bris. Maybe the green beast was too powerful for it

Funniest graph ever, kind of true.
Nice work mate, thats great going.
Paul, Version 3 STI (I'm sure that is what jarrod has) was quite an agressively tuned ECU and also learnt very quickly which is why there isn't the 10-20% you may be thinking. Do the same comparison on a V5-6 and you would see those gains.

interesting graph, not what id expect to see from this modification.
the rampup, curve and delivery is the same, only it climbs higher.

as both power and torque follow the same lines it looks as if the only thing theyve done is turn up the boost???

im not flaming or trying to downplay it. 200kw is a nice milestone. and a free ecu is a winner cant argue that.big_smile
just it seems a strange old vs new for a fresh tune over stock.
either that or the stock ecu was very well suited to your setup.

Yeah billsy, the guys there were quite impressed at how it was all put together. Everything worked well inregards to components fitted. At the dyno day when it ran the 187, was told while i was sitting in the passenger seat not to touch it as it was one of the smoothest lines they'd seen coming from a factory ecu. So then I ended up winning the raffle hahahahaha.lol

HAHAHAHA. They seem to run 5spds in 3rd gear and 6spds in 4th gear when they do these runs.:new_russi

EDIT: When they (ChipTorque) do them. Thats what was happening at the dyno day and thats how Daz's (SUB4RU) car was done too.

but fourth gear is 1:1. third gear naturally gives you a higher reading. i dont see why you wouldnt run it in fourth????

Ah ok. Does it matter what diffs or gearboxes are used???:Dntknw: Would it come up with a different reading with a 3.9 diff compared to a 4.44? I wasn't there when they did it. Was too busy organising the quarry:lol::mda:

Re: 988OXR's Latest Dyno Run

4th gear is only 1:1 in a conventional rwd gearbox. Jarrod's gearbox is actually overdriven in 4th gear. There are many variables in modern front drive based geartrains. The reason for using a particular gear is to be able to run the engine to redline without overspeeding the dyno or the cars ecu if it is limited.
