I owned a 300ZX TT 5sp M Targa for about 4 years and loved everything about the car .... except the following They are heavy 1.6 ton on the weigh bridge... which means bigger engine which means more fuel. I was traveling from Baulkham hills to Tuggerah (central Coast) and back each day for work and it was costing me about $120-$150 a week during the bad fuel hike we had. They have two of everything ... two turbos, two intercoolers two exhausts ... so if you want upgrades its going to cost you a mint. They run hot naturally so if you are in a hot area you may have issues with over heating, or the good old faithful leaking heater core (mine did that , so I bypassed it) They are a **** to get insurance for even if you are over 25. The 2+2 (4 seater) is just a tad longer than the 2 seater so the parts are not transferable yet they are Aus delivered so parts aren't that hard to get. They are basically an engine with a car wrapped around them ... if you need to do any work on them you need the following * a lot of time spare * to know what your doing ... not going in half cocked having a poke around * the bank roll to replace everything while your in that area working on it ... aka if your replacing timing belt best to do water pump and hoses and all sorts of junk while your there * pray that you will never have to have the engine out...EVER! There are a lot of crap box's getting around that have been flogged like a dead horse.... remember they are 20 years old which means 20 years of driving like you stole it ... so choose wisely there is a guide on the aus300ZX.com here is link (click the red writing and your away) http://tech.aus300zx.com/ The good things about a 300ZX 250KW with bolt on mods ... i mean like easy bolt on mods 180kmph speed cut is achieved by sneezing at the accelerator They kept the same shape from 89 to 96 (special edition in 98) so no one really knows what gen or year model your car is so an 89 could be mistaken for a mid 90's car. They are a sports car ... they were purpose built as a sports car to compete with the likes of the Porsche and Supra ... didn't really do a great job but they are not a Carolloa chick car with a T88 turbo strapped to it. They turn heads, and handle like a knife blade. They also made Jeremy Clarksons top 100 so I think that kinda nails it LOL I loved my Zed and I cried real man tears like a little girl with a skinned knee when i sold it. I have the gen2 heritage now as a run about while I work on my '48 Dodge. The Zed's are like a trophy girlfriend , if you treat them right they will treat you right .... yet in saying that they aren't a luxury car they don't even have cup holders or the most fantastic climate control.... basically they are like a bondage mistress, They'll show you the ride of your life .... but you wont be comfortable. My ride after I sold it at the Alice Springs Drags (yeah he flew down and drove it 3000 K's home and entered it into the drags the next weekend) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3cXE5NJsBU |

The Nissan Exa Turbo was the worst thing Nissan ever built ! :suicide: If your mate wants a nissan then a cheap yet decent R32 GTR is the goods ... RB engine is bulletproof you can get spares and mods up the wahzoo and bog stock they are V8 killers. |

Agreed, also the targa's are rather costly to replace the rubber on, so if you get one that leaks (like mine did) any type of rain the roof will p!ss all over you My preference would be mid 95 onwards Jap delivered 5sp Manual TT short based 2 door with a slick top (no targas) that has done less than 100 thousand K's with a front mount intercooler and no rear wing (they expand with heat and then let moisture in and rot out from the underneath, also they are really heavy) OK enough about Zed's :beee: |

by LE7SGO on 15-02-09 10:09 AM Personally i like 300zx not as good as 260 or 240's however. performance wise and practability they are ****, they weigh around 1.5/1.6 tonnes, engine bay is so tight that to do a spark plug change you have to take the engine out, thye use are massive load off fuel and are reasonably unreliable.

Have you ever owned a 300? Unreliable, please explain? Take the engine out to do a spark plug change, - that is utter crap. Its as simple as lifting the engine cover off and getting them out. It may be heavy, but the stock version is still capable of 0-100 in 5.6 seconds! |
