Change the oil about about every 5k, and use good oil.  Dont screw the engine until its nicely warmed up and you wont have problems.

Nice choice but if you've done your research, you should know that the B4 is a mechanically flawed car from factory regarding the pinging and also the problem with the Brant alarm.

Pinging is a very serious issue and the damage it has caused depends on how the previous owner drove it. If they didn't know then chances are that they just drove it like a normal car through summer which is a big no no. There are a handful of tuners in Melbourne who can reflash your ECU and get rid of the pinging. Amberley Autos in Dandenong do Ecutek and Vin at Sti Docklands does the Utec. If you're keen, you can DIY.

As for the Brant alarm, its a pos that wont allow you to disconnect the battery w/o having to tow it back to Subaru to get it reset. Sometimes the car can just switch off while driving. When my battery died, I was lucky I could start the car but most ppl tend to either replace it with an aftermarket alarm or just get brant to upgrade it so you have full control.

Clutch isn't a problem unless you want to destroy it. Its basically a STI clutch but not as strong as the recent models. You can do a fair bit of mods to the car and it will handle it as long as you dont dump it.

He's has mentioned the bad points about the car.  You'll love it when you start driving it, especially on those extremely cold days.

But make sure you get it checked out carefully before you buy it.  Who know's maybe the previous owner rarely boosted it at all.

Overall, the B4 is a great car that you can floor and will give most cars on the road a run for their money.  But as MY02B4 outlined, it has its problems with heat as i'm experiencing again atm.  Get that resolved and you'll no doubt enjoy your B4.  In great fun in the winter months as most owners will attest to.

G'luck with it and enjoy when you find one.

Kev.

PS: you have to dump em!  A 02 B4 with BBS is bad enough, let alone being stock height *cough* MY02B4. tongue

The previous model STIs are sedans and they go orright smile B4's are good and I just pointed out the bad points because usually they're the issues that really p|ss off the unresearched owner who have no time or patience to work around the problems. That's why every B4 owner here will tell you that they're decent cars once you've addressed the ECU and the alarm because alot of people have just cracked it and sold it off.

Re: 2002 Liberty B4

my b4 has 192000 klms on the clock no probs keep fresh quality oil up
to them and only use 98 octane fuel you will be fine.
i havent had my ecu retuned and i have the subaru over ride codes for my alarm
for if the battery gets disconected or dies.
as long as you get them rolling before you boot it you wont fry the clutch
or break the box.
its all about how you drive it hard and you can drive around the vod once you get use to it.
i use to have a aus spec 94 rs wagon but i much prefer the b4 to drive.
hope this helps:Dance:
