'01 B4 Dyno Results - 194.7kw

  Top of Page

After 5 years of getting around in my RX special edition i have finally made it to the big leagues and purchased a B4.

I bought Brendan's B4 from Coffs Harbour, engine mods include: Hyperflow CAI, Hyperflow TMIC, SYMS Dump Pipes into Xforce Varex Muffler, GFB Respons BOV and a Ceramic Clutch.

The car was tuned at Chiptorque last year pulling 191.3kw and retuned last week by my mechanic at Port Hacking Automotive up to 194.7kw atw! The car is running around 14-16psi primary and 16psi on secondary (although its hitting 17-17.5 on these cold nights). The new tune gets up to the peak power earlier and then tapers down to about 155kw at 7200rpm. I will post up the two dyno graphs when i have time in the next few days.

I am extremely happy with the car, the B4 is such an improvement on the RX in all ways possible (love the billys, rides a million times better).

Anyone in Sydney keen for a cruise soon?

Nice results mate.  But i thought Brenda's car already had the Kosti-tune done to it?  This wasn't up to scratch?

A different Brendan that lives up in Coffs. The retune only cost me $200 because they replaced my clutch and wanted to throw it on the dyno to see what it pulled. Turns out that the owner down there loves playing around with cars on the dyno so I was more than happy for him to have a looksy and spruce things up a bit.

Pretty sure it is just a flash tune, no aftermarket ECU needed but im not too sure to be honest.

Give them a call and ask to speak to Ben, not sure how much it will cost though because i dropped $1000 there the week before on my clutch so he tuned it up for me cheap.

Dyno graphs look good. Whats it feel like when you drop into the VOD?
Got any more mods planned?

I dont think he really had to do much with it as it already spent a few hours on Chip Torque's Dyno. I first took my car to him to get a new clutch and because i was referred to him through a mate of his he said he would through it on the dyno to see what it was making, and after it spending a week there waiting for the clutch to be rebuilt  we got talking about the ECU and all that stuff and he said he will have a tweak around to see what he can do (his passion is dyno tuning and thats where he gets his kicks so i was more than happy).

Dropping into the VOD sucks balls with the 2 seconds of lag but im just learning how to drive around it. After all that is the nature of the beast and it encourages me to go easy when driving around town so i save fuel by not getting into secondary (she is a fuel hungry *lut). However when it kicks into secondary it is a good feeling haha.

As for mods i got my new rims straight away: '02 WRX 17" powdercoated goldy-bronze and got my boost gauge.

Next on the list is the sound system as my front right speaker is blown and giving me the shits, the guy before me got rid of the amp when installing the headunit so my old rx sounded heaps better.
I also need to better vent the air through the scoop to the intercooler. The guy before me hacked out some of the plastic/rubber thing on the underside of the bonnet because the hyperflow is bigger than the stock top mount so i need to guide the air better into the top mount. After all this i might eventually get some whiteline sway bars but that is a while away. Dont have the money for those as yet. As for power mods i think im at the point where i will need to start spending big money to get more out of her and not sure how much more she can handle as she already spikes at 17.5-18psi on very cold nights.

Yeah, you are at the max power before big money. The VOD is the only thing I would change about my car. I have thought about moving onto something else for a change, but just cant think of a more appropriate car for me. I dont have 194kws but the secondary always brings a big smile.

The rims on your B4 in your avatar first debuted on the Legacy smile

I'm surprised your VOD is still that apparant as your dyno don't really indicate the VOD dip. MY02B4 had a Tek 3 tune with a graph similar to yours and when i drove it (manual) VOD was all but gone.

BigWillie, i think the B4 community all share your sentiments about the VOD mate. smile  Spare a thought for us auto owners where VOD = headbutting the windscreen. sad

The fool did the stage 3 tune a few weeks before he sold it to ya! So you got the better end of the deal. smile

It was a good pick-up mate.  He hardly drove that thing and kept it in immaculate condition. He enjoys the foz but may be getting a lib again in the future haha.

So my next question is what should i be doing to my car to get it ready for summer? I know 30+ degree hot summer days are going to be extremely different to 10 degree winter nights which im enjoying at the moment.
